Tree and Shrub Care
Trees keep our air supply fresh by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen.
Trees provide shade and shelter, reducing yearly heating and cooling costs by $2.1
billion. Trees lower air temperature by evaporating water in their leaves. Trees cut
down noise pollution by acting as sound barriers. Tree roots stabilize the soil and
prevent erosion. Trees provide food and shelter for wildlife. Trees located along
streets act as a glare and reflection control.
At Heritage, we appreciate the value that trees add to the landscape. Our Tree and
Shrub Care program provides application of both pesticide and fertilizer at the proper
timing for your trees and shrubs. These applications are designed to give you both
preventative and curative maintenance. The following treatment programs are another
way Heritage will add curb appeal to your property. For additional online information

Tree & Shrub Maintenance Care:
Recommended for complex landscapes where it would be difficult to address pest
concerns with a limited program. This 5-visit, seasonal service features timely visits
by a licensed technician who will do a thorough inspection of your landscape.
Treatment for active or threatening pests is done on an IPM (Integrated Pest
Management) or as-needed basis. This service incorporates the use of insect and
mite control sprays, horticultural oils, fungicides, and soil injections. Most insect &
mite pests are covered under this program. The goal of this service is to protect your
landscape by keeping unwanted pests at manageable levels. A limited disease
control approach is also included.
Insect Control Treatment:
This service is recommended to control certain unwanted insect pests. This treatment
will be timed to provide optimum results. For some insects, multiple treatments are
needed to provide season long results. May be combined with mite control in some
cases.
Mite Control Treatment:
This service is recommended to control spider mites on your landscape. This
treatment will be timed to provide optimum results. In most cases multiple treatments
are recommended for satisfactory results. May be combined with insect control in
some cases.
Disease Control Treatment:
This service is recommended to reduce the effect diseases have on your landscape.
Eliminating disease is not possible; the goal of this service is to limit the damage
disease causes. In almost all situations, multiple treatments are needed for
satisfactory results. For many diseases, treatments are timed at 10 - 14 day intervals.
Horticultural Oil Treatment:
This type of treatment is recommended to control adult and/or egg stages of certain
pests. Oil sprays are typically applied in spring or fall. It is an environmentally safe
alternative to harsher chemicals. No blue colored conifers will be treated as oil may
remove the blue color.
Tree & Shrub Fertilization:
This treatment features a balanced fertilizer that provides essential nutrients your
landscape needs for optimum health. A significant amount of the applied nitrogen is
timed slow release extending the window of availability. This fertilizer may be
administered as a soil injected liquid or as granular depending on surface vegetation.
In most cases, one treatment per year is sufficient. This service is usually done in
spring or fall.
Tree & Shrub Fertilization + Iron:
For this service, iron is added to the tree & shrub fertilization treatment. This service is
recommended where chlorosis (yellowing) is a concern because of iron deficiency in
the soil. Iron rapidly depletes in the soil therefore, this treatment is done in mid-spring
when trees and shrubs are rapidly taking up nutrients.
Soil Injection Treatment:
A systemic treatment that targets control of certain insect pests. For this treatment, a
systemic insecticide is injected into the soil in the root zone area of the tree or shrub.
Once it is taken up through the roots and translocated throughout the plant, it provides
long-lasting control. Sufficient soil moisture is required to mobilize the material for
uptake. Watering may be needed. Large trees may take up to 3 months for complete
translocation. This type of treatment is the option of choice in difficult-to-spray
situations.
Granular Merit Treatment:
Similar to soil injection except in granular form. This type of treatment gives
long-lasting control of certain pests in shrub bed plantings. Watering is necessary if
rain does not occcur within 24 hours following application.
Tree Injection Treatment:
A new and developing method of treatment. In certain cases, this treatment is highly
and more rapidly effective than soil injection. A systemic and long-lasting control
treatment, materials are injected directly into the cambium layer of the tree's trunk.
Rapid uptake and availability. An option when spraying is not practical.
Our Tree & Shrub Care technicians and certified arborists do their absolute best to
